Founder, Biolà
Lulu Tong
Boston University · Ph.D. Student in Neuroscience
Lulu is a Ph.D. student in Neuroscience at Boston University. She received her B.S. in Cognitive Science with a specialization in Neuroscience from the University of California, San Diego. Her research interests focus on learning, memory, and decision-making. As an undergraduate and research technician, she spent years conducting and studying rodent behavior. She has since pivoted to neuroeconomics and now studies human participants. As the founder of Biolà, she aspires to provide an open-source, openly accessible platform for science enthusiasts.

Siming Zhong
Baylor College of Medicine · Ph.D. Student in Neuroscience
Siming is a Ph.D. student in Neuroscience at Baylor College of Medicine. Her research focuses on neural circuits and neurological disorders, particularly how molecular and cellular dysfunction in specific neuronal populations contributes to circuit and behavioral abnormalities. As a co-founder of Biolà, she organizes Biolog round-table discussions and invites Ph.D. students to share practical insights into Ph.D. applications and academic journeys through experience-sharing sessions. She hopes to make scientific exchange more open and accessible while helping more people benefit from shared experiences across disciplines, institutions, and career stages.

Shuyang Yao
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill · Ph.D. Student in Quantitative Biology
Shuyang’s research focuses on the computational principles underlying spatial cognition and memory. As a co-founder of Biolà, he organizes the Bioneer First-Author Forum, inviting early-career scientists to share the ideas, challenges, and stories behind their scientific discoveries. Through Biolà, he hopes to cultivate a community where passionate, rigorous, and open scientific discussions can thrive.

Xiaoyan Zhu

Xiaoyan is an interdisciplinary designer exploring innovation at the intersection of design, technology, and diverse academic fields. Her work has received international recognition, including the iF Design Award, a Gold Medal at the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva, and the K-Design Award. She is interested in translating emerging technologies and academic ideas into practical applications while using design to support scientific communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, and innovation.

Meichen Huang
Baylor College of Medicine · Ph.D. Student in Quantitative & Computational Biosciences
Meichen is a Ph.D. student in Quantitative & Computational Biosciences at Baylor College of Medicine. Her research primarily focuses on applying deep learning to genetic data, together with other biomedical data, to support the diagnosis and characterization of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). At Biolà, she develops and maintains the organization’s website and digital infrastructure, translating the team’s programs and resources into an accessible bilingual platform.
