Zhiyuan Jin | PhD Applicant in ChemE / Biochemistry / Chemistry
Zhiyuan Jin graduated from the China Pharmaceutical University Honors Program in Medicinal Chemistry. During the 2025 PhD application cycle, he independently prepared his applications and received offers from UC Davis Chemical Engineering, Texas A&M Chemistry, Indiana University Biochemistry, and UIC Chemistry.
He began research early in his undergraduate training, first working on pharmacological mechanism validation and molecular signaling pathways before expanding into small-molecule drug design, synthesis, and therapeutic evaluation. He contributed to six SCI-indexed publications during his undergraduate studies.
In the summer of his junior year, Zhiyuan Jin completed a three-month research internship at UC Irvine, where he further developed his experimental biology skills and gained exposure to the use of large-model-based tools for biological data analysis.
Throughout the application process, he systematically organized his research experiences and repeatedly refined his cold emails, CV, and statement of purpose. In this session, he will share how he approached school selection, application strategy, and the presentation of his research background.
