Jing Liu | Weizmann Institute of Science
Jing Liu is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Life Sciences at the Weizmann Institute of Science (WIS) and will continue her PhD training in the same laboratory after graduation.
She received her bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology and Food Engineering from the Guangdong Technion–Israel Institute of Technology, graduating summa cum laude. Before graduate school, she conducted research across several areas, including structural biology, cell mechanics, and stem cell biology. Her projects included AI-based prediction of orphan protein structures, studying durotactic migration of cancer cells on stiffness-patterned substrates, and iPSC culture and immunostaining.
For graduate school, Jing applied to both the Excellent Biology Science Cluster and the Chemistry Cluster – Structural Biology at WIS and was admitted to both. She chose the former and joined the Naama Barkai Lab, where she studies how engineered intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) can guide genomic navigation. Her work explores general principles governing transcription factor IDRs and the design of synthetic IDRs for tunable promoter selection.
In this session, Jing will share her experience applying to master’s and PhD programs in Israel, with a particular focus on graduate study at the Weizmann Institute of Science.
